Summary:
This book is about a little boy born into slavery, and the hardships he faced going from one master's house to another master's tobacco factory. He fell in love with a woman and they were married and had three children. He finally found happiness. Then, it was ripped away because his wife and children were sold never to be seen again. He then decided he was going to be free and with the help of other African American men and white men, he mailed himself to Pennsylvania. In the end, he made it safely after being flipped, dropped, and sat on. He was a free man.
Teacher Evaluation:
I would use this book to teach that even though we go through bad thing, we should always push for our life to be better, as well as use this book in black history month.
